News to the Neighborhood
Hello Neighbor! Welcome to the first edition of Neighborly News, a monthly periodical that strengthens connections between neighbors.
We live in a nice neighborhood. You can tell from the lovely lawns and carefully tended gardens that we all treasure this quiet corner of Seaside. But here at Neighborly News, we believe a nice neighborhood can, and should, be more than a collection of well-kept houses and shared streets. We believe that being neighborly – connecting in a kind, respectful, helpful way – is the key component that allows a neighborhood to thrive.
With this spirit in mind, Neighborly News is committed to supporting neighborly connection through information. Ever find yourself wondering what Ward we live in when election time rolls around? Or whether it’s safe for that bee tree at Cooper & Wahana to be so close to the road? We’ve got you covered (we’re Ward 4 and short answer: yes, it’s safe).
As you peruse this first edition, we hope you’ll find something to spark your interest and brighten your day. Our Meet Your Neighbor highlight will help you learn more about the friendly faces you may see out and about. You’re invited to take a gander at the Pet of the Month section, with featured fur babies that are liable to make you smile. Green thumbs may find the Fabulous Flora section informative. Kids should seek out the Junior Journal section, where we’ll be featuring fun activities that have been approved by our 7-year-old consulting editor, Eleanor Hiatt***, of Stillwater Court. The Classifieds section might have just the service, or item, you need. The Events section will include any relevant upcoming city meetings and is also a great place to advertise garage sales or local events you’d like to bring to the neighborhood’s attention. On a regular basis, we’ll be including informal Surveys & Polls about a wide variety of topics. The questionnaire forms will be designated by the snip & clip outline and will always be located on the back cover of our paper. Our first poll may be our most important, so be sure to make your voice heard!

This first issue is being delivered via USPS to help raise awareness of this new community resource. Future issues can be found at the Neighborly Newstands that will be located around the neighborhood.
We welcome any comments, corrections, or articles you’d like to submit for future issues. To keep our content neighborly, we will avoid publishing political opinion pieces or gripes about individual people/properties. We encourage you to submit such pieces to other forums or to communicate directly with the individual neighbor.
Neighborly News will only reach its full potential with enthusiastic participation from all our neighbors. Working together, we hope to fulfill our mission of connecting neighbors & creating community.
